The 2024 NFL Pro Bowl Games will be split into two days of events. The action begins on Thursday, February 1, and continues on Sunday, February 4. Thursday’s games will air on ESPN and should be available on ESPN+. Sunday’s final day of competition will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney XD while live streaming on ESPN+ and NFL+.

This is the second year in a row that the NFL has moved away from the traditional AFC vs. NFC single-game format. Thursday’s schedule includes seven different events in the Skills Showdown. The skills competitions continue Sunday with an additional four games to go along with a flag football game. The winning team in each event will accrue points for their respective conference, and eventually, a winner will be crowned.

The new format benefitted the NFC, which picked up its first Pro Bowl victory since the league moved back to the conference vs. conference matchup in 2016. Technically, the NFC won the virtual Pro Bowl in 2021, which was just a Madden game played by different members of the Pro Bowl roster. The main difference of the new format instituted last year is that there is no longer a Pro Bowl MVP named, and it is purely just conference vs. conference in light-hearted competitions.

Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield beat Houston’s C.J. Stroud in the Precision Passing skills challenge, helping the NFC build a 12-6 lead over the AFC on the opening night of the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

The made-for-TV Pro Bowl Skills Show, aired Thursday night from a fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Central Florida, kicked off two days of competition that culminates Sunday with a seven-on-seven flag football game at Camping World Stadium.

It’s the second year for a revamped format that replaced the traditional Pro Bowl tackle football game last winter in Las Vegas. Opening night skills winners each earned three points that count toward their team’s overall score.

Mayfield, a finalist for AP Comeback Player of the Year after leading the Buccaneers to their third consecutive NFC South division title, edged Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts and Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks for the right to face Stroud in the precision passing final.

Stroud, who led the Texans to the AFC South championship as a rookie, advanced over Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Gardner Minshew of the Indianapolis Colts.

The NFC also posted wins in the Closest To The Pin golf accuracy challenge, Dodgeball and Snap Shots, which featured centers and long snappers aiming at targets.

The AFC picked up points by winning one of two Dodgeball games and also prevailing in High Stakes, which required players to catch punts from a JUGS machine.

The Pro Bowl Games conclude Sunday with more skill events, as well as the flag game, which consists of four, 12-minute quarters played on a 50-yard field. Points accumulated during the game will be added to those earned in skill challenges to determine which conference wins the overall competition.

Yes, it's hard to believe, but we're nearly at the end of the 2023-2024 NFL season. Super Bowl 2024 is just a week away, and that can only mean one thing: it's time for the Pro Bowl. What used to be an exhibition match between the AFC and NFC is now a collection of events that culminate in a fun, entertaining flag football game between the conferences' top players.

The Pro Bowl Games actually started on Thursday (Feb. 1) with a host of skills challenges that showcased the top players in the league in games that are sometimes only tangentially related to football. While these are fun — the NFC currently leads the AFC 12-6 after Thursday's challenges — things really pick up when the teams play in a flag football championship game on Sunday.

The flag football game pits seven players from the AFC against seven players from the NFC. Notably absent will be players for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs who were selected for the Pro Bowl. They won't be there since they have a pretty important game to play next week.

But there are plenty of top players from teams that didn't make the Super Bowl playing at this year's Pro Bowl, including Tua Tagovailoa, Lamar Jackson, CeeDee Lamb, and many others. It's still an exhibition, but it's also an opportunity for the NFL to showcase its top talent without risking injury — and giving fans another week of football, even if there aren't any hard hits.

Plus, you can still gamble even if the game doesn't count. DraftKings has the two conferences dead even, with a $110 bet on either the AFC or NFC winning you $100 if you choose correctly.

Led by Baker Mayfield, the NFC has a 12-6 lead over the AFC heading into the second and final day of the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. Mayfield gave his conference the lead right off the bat by winning the precision passing challenge Thursday night.

This is the second year of the NFL's revamped Pro Bowl format, which continues to take place in Orlando. It's a two-day event that began Thursday and will conclude Sunday. The 2024 Pro Bowl Games will be capped off with a 7-on-7 flag football game between NFC and AFC Pro Bowlers.
